Post by Regulus Black on Feb 6, 2006 17:19:56 GMT -5
Full Name | Nicknames:
Regulus A. Black (pending Book 7 revelations, his middle name shall be Atilius)
Age/Birthday/Year:
15 years old, DOB - October 13th 1961, 5th Year
House:
Slytherin
Blood:
Pure.
Sex:
Male.
Appearance:
Celeb Mask – Stuart Townsend
’Blessed’ with what will some day become classic aristocratic good looks and a sense of being somewhat haughty, though very handsomely so, Regulus’ appearance is – much like his blood traitor brother - typical Black, although unlike Sirius there is nothing warm or gentle about him. His eyes are grey and fathomless, with a glint of something more sinister than mischief which is often reflected in thin dark lips usually curled in a callous smirk, his hair dark and currently a shaggy sort of short. He’d like to wear it longer, but that would upset Mum and leave him looking even more like the freak who unfortunately shares his parentage, and so it remains the opposite of whatever said freak is doing at the time. Regulus is tall for his age, though not as tall as Sirius, his build something more than chiselled (all be it in a rounded, childish kind of way) but less than gaunt. Wardrobe-wise he tends towards dark colours.
Personality:
Regulus is something of an enigma, a ‘Yes man’ who’ll make himself whatever people want in return for esteem, privileges etc . Cold, yes. Calculating, definitely. Determined, almost as inventive as the Marauders when it comes to hexing, though without any of their ‘good humour’ (his own sense being wicked and black)….. But not a leader. Regulus is the sort of kid who just has to be on the inside of whatever group is in favour at the time, is desperate to be thought of as ‘cool’, ‘strong or whatever, though he tries hard not to show it, and makes ‘friends’ (read –allegiances of convenience and little else) with everyone’s older brother so he can hide behind them when the going gets tough. As the ‘perfect son’ and part of a family that’s ‘almost royalty’ he’s used to getting his own way, but the Sirius situation has highlighted how important it is to keep the right people on side. The thought that he might end up like his brother terrifies him, therefore he puts a lot of effort into showing how ‘pure’, ‘classically Black’ and ‘traditionally Slytherin’ he is, and to gaining an ‘edge’ so that if the worst does happen he’ll be secure.
Regulus isn’t malicious per se, and in his heart isn’t totally committed to the ‘dark path’, as it were, but since that’s what’s served him so far he’s not planning on changing any time soon – where’s the benefit in being the ‘good guy’? His ability to compartmentalise aspects of his life is probably the secret of his success, in that it enables him to do pretty much anything safe in the knowledge that he can cast it off afterwards. How things will turn out if he gets stuck somewhere he can’t escape is an interesting question… [OOC: Foreknowledge! Foreknowledge I say!]
Talents
Adaptability, pragmatism and a cool, ruthless intellect. Regulus’ favourite subject is – true to the expectations placed on a ‘good little Slytherin’ – Potions, although anything knowledge driven appeals to his desire to get an edge over everyone else.
Weaknesses:
His sheer desperation in his quest to be liked and admired, which means he may bite off more than he can chew. He can ‘walk the walk’ well enough, but when it comes to ‘talking the talk’ his heart might not be in it [OOC: Forekno… oh, you get the drift]
Childhood History:
12 Grimmauld Place, the ancestral home of the The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, was the setting for Regulus’ pampered but sheltered childhood. He was always less self-assured than Sirius, and closer to his parents, who fed him on a healthy diet of prejudice, blood mania and arrogance, so it was never likely that he’d escape growing into their attitudes. Things passed with little to disturb his sphere of security, save for the two family scandals – Andromeda, when he was too young to really understand what she’d done wrong, and, of course, Sirius. After this second betrayal the ‘golden net’ tightened to ensure that the same thing could never happen again and, true to form, Regulus did exactly what his parents wanted.
Family History:
Who in the wizarding world has not heard of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, given that to be born into it is to be born almost royal? The family motto – ‘Toujours Pur” – says it all, really – this is a family which values good blood above everything. The many famous Blacks include Phineas Nigellus Black, the least popular headmaster Hogwarts has ever had.
Regulus’ parents are both of this line. He has 3 cousins (only 2 he would acknowledge) – Narcissa, Bellatrix and the Blood Traitor Andromeda – and is more distantly related to the Longbottoms, Crouches, Potters… any and everyone of pureblood is interlinked sooner or later.
Relationships:
Regulus tends not to associate with anyone who’s not of use to him. Consequentially most of his ‘acquaintances’ are in higher years – he makes a point of proving himself handy to anyone with power and influence. Having ‘lost’ the one person he thought he could look up to, Regulus seems to have an unconscious need to replace him with a surrogate big brother, therefore tends to surround himself with strong males. Women are a fun but unnecessary distraction -given the legendary Black charm he’s broken a few hearts despite his tender years, but doesn’t take these relationships too seriously, fully expecting to make a respectable pureblood match (probably orchestrated by his parents) on leaving school.
What made them who they are today:
Growing up with Sirius’ shame hanging over him, which drives him to prove just how great he is so he doesn’t end up the same / Living with ‘Pureblood Mania’
Sample post:
A recent one as James Potter from My Site
The dormitory was dark, filled with the strange breathy noises of sleeping boys.. and the groans of one who was very much awake, and bored out of his skull. James glanced at his watch for what seemed like the millionth time, hoping that sheer willpower would make the numbers click over quicker. 12.30. How the hell could it be 12.30 for so long?
It wasn't as if, as happened most nights, he was waiting for something. Then it wouldn't have been quite so irritating, knowing he had a nocturnal ramble to look forward to. Hell, even the guilty thrill of full moon would be something over this... Bla. Yes, bla was about right. This nothingness that had seen him, alone out of the Marauders, unable to drop off into whatever dreams might be. Even he had been, it wouldn't have been much better - whether asleep or awake, he was a haunted man. If he wasn't constantly distracted he found himself dwelling on her, her features swimming before him. And one thing lacking in the Gryffindor Boy's dorm at 12.31 (he'd checked again)? Distraction. James Potter was, shock horror, love sick.
Her who? Shame on you... there was only one girl for James. She just didn't know it yet, unless Sirius had gone good on his threat. No, he'd never do that, too busy chasing skirt. And James had been happy to play the game.. until now. Sigh. When did women become so bloody complicated?
12.32... time crawling forward agonisingly slowly. He couldn't take this, being stretched out on the wrack, even if it was for something undeniably pleasurable, this was hell. He had to do... something. Options were slightly limited, of course, by how everyone else was asleep, and how his slightly addled brain really couldn't think of anything complicated right now... The Common Room seemed like a good bet because really, who'd be up at this god forsaken hour?
Sighing again, he swung his legs round off the bed and got to his feet, wincing slightly at the cold from which his pyjamas - if you could call them that, being really just shorts and an oversized 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' T-shirt (left over from Remus' attempts to educate him in Muggle Music - that being one record he had liked) - offered scant protection. Still, he could light a fire in the Common Room.. which gave him something to be doing, something to get his mind off her. Which was good...
.... or would have been, if he hadn't heard the unmistakable crackle of flame as he approached the Common Room. So, someone else was up. Well, he didn't need to justify himself. The House was resigned to the fact that the Marauders were usually up and about... Any excuses he had planned, however, went straight out the window almost as quickly as his hand flew to the back of his head, messing up his already dishevelled hair.
"Just when you think life can't possibly get any more suprising... Lily Evans, breaking curfew" James grinned in what he hoped was a charming manner, and headed over towards the red-haired wonder.
OOC: I can cook one up as Regulus in a couple of days, or do a sample thread, whichever. The thread might be better since my muse seems to be on vacation when it comes to starting posts at the moment… I’ve also played James Potter on Warped Wanderings, James Potter / Andromeda Black on Mischief Managed, and Barty Crouch Junior (as an adult) on Eye of Newt
Finally: for bonus points and an accepted application; What is Parker's real first name?:[/b] ACCEPTED!
