Full Name | Nicknames (if any): Taylor Katie Danes // Tay
Age/Birthday/Year: 17//23rd November//7
House: Gryffindor and proud of it
Blood: Pureblood, but to Tay it doesn’t make a difference.
Sex: Female.
Appearance: Taylor is quite a pretty girl. She has dark brown hair which often looks black in mildly shadowed areas. Her eyes are bright blue and often have a rather glazed look to them, as though Taylor isn’t really there in front of you but somewhere else, in her own little world. She is a fairly short girl compared to others her age but has a slim, slightly curved figure which looks great in flowing skirts. Taylor’s light complexion and dark hair contrast rather a lot, but Taylor often finds herself smiling at it. Her features are unique- her lips a little thinner than most but not at a glance, and her cheeks rather shaped. She loves to wear blues and greens, and isn’t so keen on her house colour red.
Personality: Taylor is likely the most stubborn person you could find on an arbitrary street in the middle of nowhere. She always keeps to what she believes in and when is in full mind and body can put up a great argument about her beliefs and what is right and wrong. She isn’t scared of getting put-down or told off, just does what her instincts tell her to do. Taylor always does what she believes is best for those around her when she can and believes everyone is equal. So what if someone is muggle born? If purebloods were so powerful and ruling then why do they hide as they do from defenceless Muggles? Taylor hates people saying things which could never, or would never happen. For instance if you were speaking to her and acted all cocky and proud over another student, boasting about how you were maybe a far better quidditch player, then Taylor would be that person who knew that you couldn’t play quidditch the slightest bit and would think less of you for this cocky outburst.
Although Taylor now seems to you like the outgoing, audacious person now doubt, this isn’t all that true. Taylor mostly loves to dream and hates staying in small, confined places for too long if she can’t see the sky or be outside. She always wishes to know what it would be like to be a butterfly and often if you talk to her, you would have to wait a few moments so Taylor can awake from her butterfly thoughts where she is completely peaceful.
Taylor’s distant views and amazingly short attention span annoy quite a few people around her but Tay can’t help it- she has many friends but her best and closest are those who don’t mind her day dreams and ditzy attitude. Those who want to befriend her must like her the way she is, she shan’t ever change for anyone.
Taylor’s most important rule is that everyone, even house elves or ants, are equal up to their actions. Age, looks, skin colour, blood type- they are all things which are unimportant in status. What really matters to Taylor is the way you show these things. If someone hides all week because they have a new zit on their nose and are too embarrassed, this to Tay is a sign of weakness. If the zit and the thing hanging off it forget the fact the zit is huge to them and they decide to be social and go outside, then this is braver then fighting a lion with just a napkin for company. Taylor always includes people- always. But if they offend her, her friends, or anyone for a reason not worth insulting for, then she can get pretty heated.
Talents/Weaknesses: Although good in a fair range of subject including History of Magic, Potions and Ancient Runes, Taylor is best in more ‘creative’ lessons. These for her include Charms and Transfiguration. She also loves Defence Against the Dark Arts as finds it interesting to read about stupid people who get too cocky, and how to defend yourself against their boastful curses. Tay dislikes- hates, Divination. You yourself decide your fate and how you shall come by it, not a bunch of sodden lack tea dregs in the bottom of a mug. This is what Taylor believes. Although she has so many beliefs about the way things ‘work’, she doesn’t admonish or disrespect the fact that others may not have this trust or thought. Unless, their principle is detrimental or impertinent, of course.
Taylor also has an affinity with Quidditch. She best likes the Chaser position and loves the fact that by flying, she is pretty much as close as she can get to being a butterfly. Taylor is also a competent artist and above her four-poster Hogwarts bed are at least thirty plus of her drawings. She prefers sketching in black-and-white though has a few coloured pictures mixed in. Her favourite things to draw include her friends in groups or individually, her owl, and the Castle. She is a great drawer and knows it, though of course doesn’t like to boast as it is against her morality.
Childhood History: Ann and Cliff Danes were outgoing and amazing people who accomplished a lot in the fields of discovery. They were both involved deeply in the Muggle sections of the Ministry of Magic and were almost Muggles themselves by the way their house was adorned and in the appliances they used. They drove a car- a rather expensive Honda, which Cliff doted over but which meant nothing to Ann, and the house they lived in contained many Muggle things like toasters, heaters, and far more. They raised Tay wonderfully and happily, making her feel special all the time and never, ever leaving her out of anything.
At least, that is what Taylor dreams would have happened. You most likely noticed that the words ‘were’ and others in past tense were contained in the short passage above. Unfortunately for Taylor, this is correct grammar and not just a slip of the finger. Ann and Cliff died when Taylor was just two years old. In that wonderful passage above you must check back at the fact that the Danes owned a Honda. The only reason Taylor knows this is for the fact that the Danes parent’s died in that expensive Honda, and the only reason Taylor lived is because she was so stubborn she didn’t want to go to Grammy’s funeral and wasn’t caught in the huge crash which involved the journey their.
But Taylor knows she truly would have been raised beautifully by her parents. They were- she knows- loving, caring people devoted to each other completely and their only daughter while they could be. She wishes of course that they were still alive even now, but is happy as she is. And you are probably asking where she is now, aren’t you? Taylor now stays with her adoptive parents, two Muggles who live in the bustling city of London.
Family History: The adoptive parents, the Summer’s, gave Taylor the choice of last name and naturally she chose to keep Danes. The Summer family contained three people, two who were extremely happy people who were often far too happy for Tay’s liking. They were always doing things for her- all she had to do to get a blueberry muffin was to say, “Man, do I feel like something nicely, sweetly fruity with a soft, fluffy bread taste with it,” and it was brought to her. Even expensive things were brought to Taylor- even though she didn’t want them. The Summer’s weren’t actually the richest people ever and Taylor knew they didn’t have spare money to rattle around, and she always declined short holidays to places like Paris or Cornwall. Not just because she knew the Summer’s didn’t have the money- Taylor was happy was simple, easy things. She hates complications and since the death of her blood family they seem to be full of it.
The three happy people in the Summer family, as mentioned earlier, are all female. Sara and Leanne Summer were married and adopted their first child- a baby then- around the time Taylor herself was born. The little girl they chose was named Jessica and she was cold-hearted and cruel. Once Tay was adopted two years later, just after the car crash, she was always at war with Jessica. Jessica was perfect. She was blonde-haired, blue-eyed, and innocent looking to the max. She once fell over purposely when she was just five, and Tay three, and began to cry. Her huge blue eyes were great at crying on the moment and at that time it worked perfectly. After just a few minutes Ann and Cliff came along and took in the scene- Jess on the floor, Tay gob-smacked above her. Although they did anything for Taylor they would die for Jess as apparently her parents had been suicidal and that was worse. To Taylor, she can’t help but see why Jessica’s parents had been suicidal.
When Taylor turned eleven and the beautiful, life-saving letter came for her to invite the eleven year old to the wonderful world of Hogwarts, she was ecstatic. By that time she was in despair with living with two over-happy adults and a bully. The only thing which kept her sane were the drawings she drew. On average she sketched three a day, and usually sat in her boring Muggle lessons with her paper and pencil beneath the desk, drawing away. She didn’t have many friends as Jess had ruined any chance of that happening, and she saw Hogwarts as a new chance. Jessica was just plain angry. After Taylor’s first term when she came back loaded with a beautiful eagle-owl, an odd magic-stick and a sweeping broom, she was chaos. On more then one occasion did she try to take the magic-stick and hide it but the powerfully eagle-owl which forever guarded it scared her far too much. She became secretly jealous and whenever the holidays arrive and Taylor visits her home, she makes the witch wish she stayed in that place where people fly. And Taylor would happily agree if it were her choice. Although Jess is nineteen she still lives with her adoptive parents, and Taylor does have a thought of why. Maybe Jessica is scared that if she leaves, the witch in her family will get her when the parents aren’t there to stop her? This is fanatical to Tyler but is the only reason she can think of for why Jessica stays at the Summers’ house. She knows Jessica doesn’t like their warmth or cuddling.
Relationships: Taylor hasn't much time for boyfriends, though she often feels more comfortable around Remus when she thinks about it, as believes he shares many of her views. But by the time she has gotten to this thought-point in her mind the butterflies come along and take her back to reality, where she has to hide her confused feelings. She only ever lets her true feelings slip in little comments. This is when she can’t stand keeping her confusing burden a secret any longer, and letting it out slowly and casually to Kara and Parker makes her feel a little better.
What made them who they are today: Taylor has forever had her stubbornness, but if anything made it stronger it would be the Summers. With the angry, cruel Jessica it is because she had years of learning to decline Jess’s mad set-ups to infuriate Tay, and with the Summer’s it’s because she had to convince them not to fuss over her, and often act the eldest when they made unwise suggestions for holidays and such things.
Sample post: “La……lama…….la….la…done!” Someone from inside the Gryffindor girl’s 7th year dorm whispered softly. It was Taylor Danes, and she had just completed the sketch she had been working on off-and-on all week. It was, she admitted to herself, beautiful. She wasn’t completely sure what ‘it’ was, but it was pretty fabulous. The border she had sketched was made up of a square branch-framed drawn with amazingly fine pencil, and twined around the branch was a gorgeous vine or black and white roses. In the center, for the main picture, was a girl. Well- not really a girl. The girl, let’s call her ‘Susie’ for that’s what Tay wrote on the bottom in spidery fine writing, was ugly. At least she was ugly when you glanced. But if you happened to quickly look again she seemed amazingly gorgeous, with striking features and wonderful hair. She had short hair, almost a short as a boy’s, and a tiny scrunched nose. Her eyes were massive and popping, with one lighter than the other. Her lips were normal, just plain lips with a hint of shadow. But what was most abnormal was Susie’s body. It was like you would imagine a ladybird’s to be. It had a number of little legs- or, ‘she’ had, and wings. But the wings were more like… like a butterfly’s. In the background and on the wings and in Susie’s hair Taylor had drawn gorgeous flowers of all different shapes and types and shades and sizes.
With a final satisfied grin at the drawing Taylor rose from her comfortable-for-only-Tay position and walked over to the bed quietly. It was night and everyone was asleep in the dorm apart from Taylor. She often drew on her own in the moonlight. By this light did the dark, short figure step onto her immense four-poster. She took out her wand and with a muttered incantation and a flick of her wrist she spelled the sheet with the Susie on it to hang elegantly above her bed, and stay there. It hung proudly, Susie’s one dark eye angry and the other kindly caring. With another happy grin Taylor yawned loudly, tucked her wand away and crawled sleepily beneath the covers, the moonlight shining off of her gorgeous dark hair.
